Everhart Part Two

Welcome again to Glenda's garden! It has been a busy, hectic week.
Isn't this front door stunning? I love it because not only is the architecture beautiful,
the white looks so cool and refreshing under the large shade trees.

I love the contrast between the Canterbury Bells and the lush greenery in this shade garden.

I have to be honest, I am not always a huge fan of decks, however between
the elegant design and the transition between the house and garden,
this deck is fabulous! Now I want to build a deck!

Can you imagine sitting under this wisteria sipping an icy drink? How beautiful is this?

These Cecil Brunner roses just go on and on and on!
I hope you have a wonderful week!

Welcome to Everhart Part One

Lets talk about garden envy! If ever there was a garden to envy, it would be my dear client and friend Glenda Cudaback's. Ascending up the hill to her beloved Everhart is a treat beyond your imagination. The first thing I noticed, is that maybe this is a garden that could be obtainable. The beauty of Everhart is that it has everything you would ever want on your estate, but in a much smaller scale. The stone house sits on a hill surrounded by english gardens, and long sweeping views of an orchard in front of an ice house and stream. You don't know where to look first! There is beauty everywhere! Let's just say you get a warm, fuzzy feeling visiting Glenda's house and garden. And oh, by the way, there is always champagne in the fridge awaiting your arrival!

This tree peony just takes my breath away! It is a Duchess of Marlborough and has been in the ground for 8 years.  They take awhile to settle in and begin blooming, but when they do, it's a dazzling spring feast for your eyes!

Attached to the back of the house is a beautiful white pergola covered with white wisteria.

Look at those cascading blooms. Aren't they beautiful?

How about this stone garden tool shed with a lattice roof!

Throughout the garden there are hundreds of roses, peonies, clematis, boxwoods, bulbs and perennials, all of my favorites. I hope you have enjoyed Glenda's garden as much as I have.

Welcome to Matthews

This is our 175 year old church which we lovingly restored over ten months
and turned into our home furnishings and interior design store.

This is the design studio which was previously the congregation hall built in 1983.
We gave it a false storefront facade to change the roof lines and match the church.
The sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains are a constant
reminder of living in the beautiful countryside.

Our future knot garden is surrounded by antique fencing.

Lilac Standard

I have had this meyeri lilac topiary standard for sixteen years!
It has moved with me from Cleveland, Ohio to Leesburg, Virginia and now Upperville.

I look forward to the beautiful, fragrant flowers every spring.

I planted four more in the future knot garden in front of our design studio.

Welcome to Matthews House and Garden blog.
We're excited to share all of the beautiful things we love with you.
